VH1 just confirmed the cast of its long-awaited biopic Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story, and while plenty TLC fans are happy about who the network picked, some aren't as enthusiastic. Among their complaints: Keke Palmer, who is set to play Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas in the biopic, doesn't look enough like the real-life Chilli.
Twitter users registered similar complaints about Lil Mama and singer-actress Drew Sidora, who have been cast in the respective roles of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins.
But Keke isn't taking the criticism lying down. In a recent tweet she wrote, "People kill me, I don't remember Angela Bassett looking ANYTHING like Tina Turner. And she RIPPED that role." Keke, whose film resume includes Akeelah & The Bee and Joyful Noise, certainly has a point. In 1994, Angela Bassett won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, thanks to her portrayal of Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It.
"I don't know about you, but I would much rather see a movie that is well acted, then a movie with a bunch of look a like's," Keke added.
It's unclear what Chilli and T-Boz think of the castings, but as consultants and executive producers of the film, both ladies have a say-so in the project. Shooting for Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story is scheduled to begin next month in Atlanta.
